The Deslondes are a New Orleans-born band known for their loose, lived-in blend of country, folk, swamp rock, and roots music, music that feels like it’s been passed hand-to-hand rather than manufactured in a studio. Built around a rotating lineup of multi-instrumentalists and songwriters, the group has long embraced a collective spirit in which voices and styles overlap rather than compete.
That philosophy comes into full focus on their covers-and-community project Don’t Let It Die Vol. 1, an album that doesn’t just pay tribute to their influences, it actively uplifts their peers. Alongside reinterpretations of foundational artists like Swamp Dogg, Johnny Cash, and Clifton Chenier, the record highlights songs from friends, tourmates, and collaborators such as Nick Woods, Pat Reedy, and The Kernel. As John James Tourville (guitar, fiddle) puts it, the goal wasn’t only to honor the “heroes,” but to shine a light on the songwriters in their own orbit: the people they’ve shared stages, vans, and long stretches of road life with.
Across their career, The Deslondes have built that same reputation on the road, touring widely through the U.S. and abroad and sharing stages with a broad spectrum of Americana, country, and roots acts who orbit the same musical world. Rather than fitting neatly into a single lane, they tend to drift between them, equally at home in a honky-tonk, a folk festival, or a late-night club set where the setlist feels like it could change direction at any moment.
